Fact-Checking Policy

Last updated 04 Oct 2026

This page explains how the facts on a CareersOz job listing are checked before and after it is published.

Facts come from the source

The employer, posts, number of vacancies, qualification, age limit, last date and how to apply are taken from the source of the listing (see our Sources Policy). When the source does not state something, we leave it out instead of guessing.

  • Salary and pay scale are kept apart. A pay scale such as BPS-16 is shown as a pay scale. A salary amount is shown only when the advertisement states one.
  • Qualification, age and experience are separate fields, so one cannot be mistaken for another.
  • Deadlines are the date given by the source. A listing closes on our site when that date passes.

Review before publishing

Listings are published by a person, not automatically. Listings collected by our crawler wait in a review queue until an editor has looked at them.

Some advertisements are published only as scanned images. Text read from a scan by OCR is treated as a draft: such a listing cannot be published until a person has checked it against the advertisement.

Automatic checks

Before a job page is announced to search engines, the structured data on the page is compared with what the page shows. A mismatch blocks publishing until it is fixed.

After publishing

Readers can report a problem from any listing using "Report". Reports go to our editorial queue, where they are compared with the source. What happens next is described in our Corrections Policy.

Limits

We work from published sources and can make mistakes, and employers sometimes change or cancel an advertisement after it appears. The official source is always the final authority.
